The challenge
No major competitor in the Romanian market offered a comprehensive culinary app with recipes, articles and social connections, so Salt & Pepper saw a real opportunity in Prepino. We put together a full-stack team to develop the first mobile app, using React Native as a hybrid technology for quick development.
At the core of the project was a platform that brings together passionate home cooks and cooking veterans, through recipes, cooking articles and a unified shopping list. The goal was for Prepino to become the first cooking social media platform in Romania.

The process
The Prepino project started with comprehensive market and user analysis. The first phase was a React Native MVP focused on recipe discovery and shopping lists. The platform then grew social features, including user profiles, push notifications, recipe reviews, comments and personalised recommendations, and a web app, the Creators Portal, where Prepino creators manage their content, engage with followers and track metrics.
Development process
The client carried out the market and user analysis, and presented the UI/UX design to Salt & Pepper after the research. The development team included React Native developers, back-end and React developers, a project manager and a QA specialist.
In the first phase, we built the MVP mobile app with recipe discovery, search and shopping lists, with the emphasis on a seamless user experience and a robust back end. In the second phase, the app grew into a social platform, and the Creators Portal let creators manage their content and social interactions and track engagement.
- Scalability The platform was designed to scale, accommodating a growing number of users and content creators.
- User Engagement The team focused on a platform that is engaging and useful for both cooking enthusiasts and creators, to build a vibrant community.
- Cross-Platform Compatibility The mobile and web applications work together, so creators can reach the platform from any device.
- Agile Way of Working With a SCRUM methodology, we worked closely with the Prepino team in two-week sprints. Regular reviews and demos kept stakeholders aligned.
The outcome
After three months of development, the Prepino MVP was delivered, with a recipe discovery engine and a shopping list creator that let users explore a wide range of recipes and quickly build grocery lists from them. Positive feedback from beta users led to further enhancements: user profiles, followers, push notifications, shopping list filters, recipe reviews and comments turned Prepino into a social media platform for cooking enthusiasts and creators.
Today the platform has 10,000 users, 1,300 recipes and 21 content creators. It has attracted local food brands, who work with Prepino to supply ingredients to creators, opening opportunities for showcasing products and reaching new audiences. Prepino has become a thriving cooking community in Romania, with valuable content, articles and high-quality recipes.
